Gene Ficken grew up on a farm in Spirit Lake, Iowa. After graduating from college, he moved to Buchanan County, where he has lived for 42 years. A graduate of UNI (B.A. 1966, M.A. 1977), Gene dedicated his career working with and for the students of Independence High School as a teacher and coach. As a member and former congregational president of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, former youth coach and member of Jaycees & Kiwanis, Gene has been committed to the improvement of his community. He is ready to work for the citizens of House District 23 as State Representative.
